First 4 verses only:

Rover sat on the couch
A scruffy looking fellow
Beside him lay his leash
As he howled a loud bellow.

He won't go out without me
So he ran to the door
Dragging the leash behind him
As if to show me what it's for.

"We need the morning paper
Not the afternoon mail!"
I told him as he smiled at me
Wagging his tail.

He perked up because he
Understood what I had said
But his look told me
He had other plans instead. . . .
