Has a Moral

First 3 verses only:

Beginning many years ago
I need to set the scene
A lioness lay with her cubs
Whom she was trying to wean.

In grassy plains with thorn shrubs
The lions are seen as king
The papa would protect the cubs
Circling mama in a ring.

There were some kindly people
Who watched the cubs to study
Their actions both on dirt dry
And on dirt wet and muddy. . . .

"'Lionel Lion' was a good story. You definitely feel involved. It's hard not to feel sad emotions because of what happens in the story. A circus strikes me as a far better life (usually) than a zoo. The story created lots of great images from 'grassy plains with thorny shrubs' to 'Lionel just licked his lips and opened his mouth wide, the lion trainer confidently put his head inside.'" - Laura Hegre, Mpls., MN

"A teacher would love to read this to her class and the children would be mesmerized and would learn so much at the same time." - Patrice Rosinbaum, Eagan, MN

"Nice story." - Sharon Planer, Annandale, MN
